Inner-City Arts is seeking experienced, energetic, and talented teaching artists in visual art, ceramics, dance, music, drama, and animation to teach or assist in 7-week sessions for elementary, middle, and high school students, grades K - 12. We are looking for teaching artists and assistants who work from the special resources of their own art form in unique and positive ways, and who are able to tailor their teaching skills to meet the specific needs of children who attend Title I downtown public elementary and middle schools, as well as high schools for our after-hours programming. At Inner-City Arts, children are first. Through our student-centered programs, we offer a place where students can develop and explore their own creativity. We believe that the arts are vital for personal and cultural development and connect the individual to the larger world. Through creative exploration, the arts offer opportunities for these children to believe in who they are. This belief becomes the seed from which personal and academic growth explodes, allowing students to excel both creatively and academically in challenging environments. Inner-City Arts is dedicated to bringing the best of creative experiences to the thousands of children who live in the downtown area and attend public schools in Los Angeles Unified School District. Working in conjunction with LAUSD, we offer comprehensive arts and language programs during the instructional school day, with classes in visual art, ceramics, dance, music, drama, and animation to over 8,000 children from 35 area public and charter schools.
The Visual and Performing Arts Instructors at Inner-City Arts have overall responsibility for the teaching of the specific curriculum in each art form. Specific job responsibilities include, and are not limited to:
Develop, write and update syllabus, lesson plans, and assessment plans for an art form that addresses the focus of the programs, and is aligned with the California Visual and Performing Arts Content Standards; Collaborate with teaching staff in all artistic disciplines during staff development and training, to achieve Inner-City Arts' curricular goals.
QUALIFICATIONS: College degree in specific art form, or related field (education); Prior teaching experience with ages K-12 years; Ability to provide differentiated instruction to students in various stages of social, emotional, and cognitive development; Must be a self-starter with a flexible attitude and the ability to work efficiently and independently; Must be a team player, enjoy working with children, and exhibit patience and sensitivity; Must have the ability to design curricula appropriate for different age groups of children; Must be in good physical health; Bilingual in English and Spanish a plus.
LOCATION, WORK SCHEDULE & SALARY: Inner-City Arts is located in downtown Los Angeles adjacent to the Produce Mart and Skid Row. Part-time, full-time, and independent contractor work plans are available, determined by availability and schedule o f teaching terms. Opportunities in special projects and weekend programs are also available. SALARY : Commensurate with education and experience.
