MARCH 2007 ENEWS: -- Longtime supporter and former Inner-City Arts board member John Anderson was literally on top of the world in February when he climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro -- the tallest free-standing mountain rise in the world (15,000 ft from the base, which includes the highest peak in Africa at 19,340 ft). With an Inner-City Arts flag in hand, Anderson accomplished a longtime dream to conquer this intimidating volcano. And not only did he succeed in fullfilling that dream, but he also brought an Inner-City Arts flag to the top. What's next for him? We don't know, but we hope that a little bit of Inner-City Arts will be with him.
-- Fueled by motivation and determination, high school students enrolled in Inner-City Arts'/CAP Saturday Animation class successfully completed the second annual 24-hour animation marathon. The marathon films as well as projects that students have been working on all year long will debut at the REDCAT Theater in Disney Hall on Saturday, May 5, 2007. If you would like to attend the screening, please contact (213) 627-9621.
-- As part of Inner-City Arts' Visiting Artists Series, The Stephen Petronio Dance Company was invited to make a brief stop on their national tour to perform for Inner-City Arts students. After a captivating performance, the dancers opened the floor for a Q and A session. One Inner-City Arts student asked how they create their dance pieces. Stephen Petronio, artistic director and choreographer of the dance group, answered the question by inviting everyone to go through the process with him. All the students were asked to stand up and experience the improvisation of how a dance piece is created. What a sight to see! The flex space has never been so active or filled with so many dancers. -- Harvard Westlake will be hosting their 2nd annual multi-school jazz festival on March 17. The concert will begin with local high school bands opening the show, followed by a special performance by world-renowned jazz saxophonist and Grammy nominee Kenny Garrett. Proceeds from this performance will benefit Inner-City Arts. Please call the HW Box Office at (818) 487-6564 or purchase online at http://www.hw.com/boxoffice/buytix.htm
