SEPTEMBER 2006 ENEWS:

-- Lights, camera and less action is the hope of Central City East Association (CCEA) and the Los Angeles Police Department as they install surveillance cameras in downtown Los Angeles. One of these state-of-the-art cameras will be installed here at Inner-City Arts on 7th Street and Kohler. Once connected, LAPD Central Division will be able to monitor the cameras day and night. In the areas where cameras are already up and running, LAPD has seen a decrease in drug activity.

-- Inner-City Arts' inaugural “Summer Salsa” event in July was an event to remember. The event was Inner-City Arts' first attempt at holding an evening fundraiser on campus. Over 100 guests turned up to show their support and some even tried out their salsa moves on the dance floor. Sponsorship and ticket sales raised over $20,000 -- exceeding original expectations. And if you did miss the event, stay tuned for next year!

-- With much anticipation, the new after-school program called the “Bigs and the Littles” has just begun at Inner-City Arts, in partnership with the Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Greater Los Angeles. Each pair of “Big and Little,” a student with their mentor adult Big Bro or Big Sis, will participate in a visual arts program taught by Co-Founder and Artistic Director Bob Bates. The visual arts class will encourage every participant to discover their own creative expression in a safe and supportive studio environment, exploring both individually and collectively. Emphasis in class, in true Inner-City Arts style, is placed upon “learning by doing.” The program will culminate with an exhibition of the students' artwork.
