NOVEMBER 2006 ENEWS:

-- On Wednesday, September 27th Inner-City Arts lost a beloved member of our family. Ron George died in his downtown L.A. studio. Our dear friend and colleague was a treasured member of our staff here at Inner-City Arts for over 10 years. Ron also developed the World Music Ensemble, worked with children with special needs, and created a program in which he composed music for children and young people to perform on his original instruments, including the American Gamelan. His love of children infiltrated every part of his being, as he shared his gifts with them, teaching kids to improvise and to create their own original musical compositions. Ron felt that through this process, students would develop an understanding and appreciation of music that comes from the direct experience of creating and performing music. Ron's spirit is living at Inner-City Arts. He will be cherished and remembered with humor and love.

-- With the onset of our fall session of classes, we celebrate our LAUSD partnership with the Arts Education Branch, providing arts instruction to over 30 schools. In our instructional-day program, the Arts Community Partnership Network (ACPN), we welcome eight new schools, including: City Terrace, Del Omo, Crescent Heights Science and Language Arts Magnet, Elizabeth Learning Center, Hammel Street, Miles Avenue, Saturn, and Sierra Vista Elementary Schools. Each school will be participating in arts experiences in visual art, drama, animation, music, ceramics, dance and language arts.

-- On November 1, Inner-City Arts held its most successful Imagine Awards Gala in its history. The fundraising event, honoring Larry C. Hansel of Larry Hansel Clothing Company, grossed over $500,000. After a surprise pizza auction that raised $2,200, a heartwarming performance by Inner-City Arts' Chorus, and an energetic live auction followed by a short speech by our city's mayor, Larry Hansel spoke eloquently about his passion for the arts to an almost sold-out room of 700 guests. Stay tuned for more details in our hard copy newsletter. If you would like to be on that mailing list, please email garmen@inner-cityarts.org

-- Inner-City Arts Benefit Print Collection lithographs from Charles Arnoldi, Jonathan Borofsky and Andrea Tana are still available. For more information on the lithographs, please call us at (213) 627-9621.
