DECEMBER 2007 ENEWS:

On November 13, Inner-City Arts honored the longtime support of board member Vera Campbell , President of KWDZ Manufacturing, LLC dba Knit Works/Beautees. The event raised over $800,000 – shattering all previous records raised at any Inner-City Arts Imagine Awards Gala. That same evening, the Inner-City Arts-Para Los Niños chorus performed on a stage that was transformed into a scene reminiscent of the fairytale, Alice in Wonderland. The costumes worn by the chorus were from Vera's clothing line for children. The chorus sung a medley, and with one song the audience chimed in to sing, “The Garden Song.”

In partnership with the Los Angeles Unified School District, Inner-City Arts students have painted murals, which will line the construction site of the Central Los Angeles Learning Center, opening 2008. The murals were painted by students from 52nd Street, Esperanza, Gratts, Norwood Para Los Niños Center, Saturn Street, and Sierra Vista Elementary Schools, and Berendo Middle School, all attending Inner-City Arts programs. The construction site, located on Wilshire Blvd in mid-Los Angeles, occupies the old Ambassador Hotel and Coconut Grove restaurant, historical landmarks for the city. The murals were unveiled on Dec. 5th.

Decorating for the holidays had added meaning for children from Inner-City Arts and Para Los Niños' after school program when they used their creativity to make Christmas ornaments out of recyclable products. With aluminum cans, CDs, and plastic containers, the children brought these used items back to life with ribbon, glitter and plenty of holiday spirit. The ornaments will be placed on a tree in front of the new Nokia Theater in downtown Los Angeles.

Happy Holidays!

With much love, Inner-City Arts!
